With great joy, we witnessed
the appearance in Venezuela’s art scene of the promising
novel artist Rocio Elena Magasrevy. We had the opportunity to
appreciate 18 representative pieces of her work at the Art Exhibition
“Encuentro” that opened on September 29th, 2005
at Galeria Spativm, in Caracas, Venezuela.
The first impression of her paintings is given through the impact
of light and color that emanates from her work. Rocio uses pure,
strong, vibrant colors. Her whites are dazzling, her blues are
intense, and her reds are fire. They are not dark; on the contrary,
they have the luminosity of the day at the sun’s zenith.
Going from the color impact
to the theme, we found flowers in an outstanding range, done
with very defined lines and strokes with a style that suggests
aspects of a figurative realism, plus the idealization and static
representation that comes from Rocio’s particular perception
and artistic expression. Her work is a song to life, to fecundity,
and to creativity, which is represented on each of her paintings:
incipient buds, or promises that seem to appear, or on the full-blossomed
flower at its plenitude that has become a reality.
She represents nature on her
ultimate product, the flower, in different varieties and in
different stages of development that goes parallel with the
process of life and the development of human creations.
We salute with great pleasure
the arrival of this young plastic artist to the contemporary
Venezuelan artistic scene. We already know that her art will
be a significant contribution to the rich tradition of excellent
painters that fills the history of artistic painting in Venezuela.
